Spotlight Presentation: Let Teens Lead: How to End Violence in Alaska

This February, we will be learning from Alaska Teens Against Abuse (ATAA), a dynamic, youth-led movement that empowers young Alaskans to stand up against abuse and take the lead in creating safer, more respectful communities. Alaska has long been at the top of the list for sexual and domestic violence. Many initiatives necessarily focus on crisis intervention and critical direct services with many fewer initiatives focusing on prevention. Teen leaders are stepping up to fill the gap and making progress. Learn how you can support the next generation of leaders and make Alaska safer. (See our February agenda for more details.)

Presenter: Geran Tarr is the Mentor for Alaska Teens Against Abuse and brings decades of experience as an educator, social justice and human rights activist, and former state legislator with deep expertise in education, advocacy, policy, and strategic planning. As a legislator, they served on the House Health and Social Services Committee and led or supported major initiatives advancing resilience and safety in Alaska, including rape kit reform, consent law updates, suicide prevention education, SNAP access, Medicaid improvements, opioid response legislation, and foster care reforms.
