AYDC Professional Learning and Development Series: “Using Social-Emotional Wellness Strategies to Support Youth Mental Health” Workshop

This session will provide an overview of Social-Emotional Wellness (SEW), focusing on trauma-informed strategies to support emotion regulation in youth programming environments. SEW is a conceptual integration of social-emotional learning, positive youth development, and youth mental health. The session will highlight key components of social-emotional development in youth that support learning, physical and mental health, and job readiness. The session will offer strategies to support both youth program participants and the adults who lead them.

Audience: Youth advocates, educators, social service providers, and community partners working to support social-emotional skill development in youth, including emotion regulation and positive mental health.
Facilitator: Facilitated by Nigel Gannon, Ph.D., who has extensive experience with supporting youth development, including as a teacher, program coordinator and evaluator, mental health counselor, and professional development trainer. He has led numerous workshops and training sessions for out-of-school time practitioners focused on social-emotional wellness, youth mental health, and trauma-informed practices.
