Spotlight Presentation: From Parks to Partnerships: Inspiring Youth and Building Connection Outdoors
This December, Anchorage Park Foundation’s Youth Engagement Manager will share how youth engagement and outdoor learning programs—such as Youth Employment in Parks, Outdoor School, and Schools on Trails—connect young people to nature, foster stewardship, and build community health. Grounded in the belief that access to the outdoors strengthens individuals and neighborhoods alike, this session will highlight APF’s collaborative approach to youth development and environmental education. Participants will explore how going outdoors with their own organizations and forming partnerships across sectors can expand opportunities for youth, enhance equity in outdoor access, and create stronger, more connected communities.
About the Presenter: Meredith Gutierrez has more than 15 years of experience in outdoor and environmental education and is passionate about helping youth and educators build meaningful connections with nature. She believes that when young people have opportunities to explore and learn outdoors, they develop into lifelong stewards of the places they call home.
